When Nestor Buhendwa first moved to Canada two years ago, one of the things he missed most about his life in the Democratic Republic of Congo was his garden. Growing his own food meant he didn’t have to rely on the markets to get fresh vegetables to feed his family. But when he and his wife and their six children moved to an apartment in Regina, Saskatechwan, Buhendwa thought his gardening days were over.
Congo-born teacher Sergio Kaptegaine raises awareness of his home country’s struggles

Kaptegaine lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he works as a French language teacher. He's also the founder of two organizations. Hand in Hand for Peace was formed in 2005 by Kaptegaine and new friends he made upon arriving in Winnipeg. The group raises awareness about the Democratic Republic of Congo by making presentations in schools about worldwide human rights violations.
